About Me

Educational History:

I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering with a minor in Environmental Engineering.

Current Position:

This is my first year teaching in Dayton ISD. I am  the 3rd grade ELAR and Social Studies teacher at Richter Elementary.

Previous Position:

I have always had passion and a strong commitment for teaching. It started while I was still a student pursuing my bachelors, when I got the opportunity to assist prospective students to prepare for the entry exams before admission to the Institute I was attending. I was surprised to see that I had a natural gift for teaching and enjoyed doing so.

When I obtained my degree, I started working in industry as an Environmental engineer, but after a few years, I have come to realize that my penchant for teaching is strong. When I gave birth to my first daughter, I decided to quit my job as engineer and I started working as a part time Professor at Universidad Politecnica de Chihuahua, teaching Chemistry and Physics.

In regards to elementary education, I have experience as a volunteer at McGregor Elementary School, where my children attend school in the GT program. My contribution at McGregor consisted in assisting the teachers to organize the field trips as well as supporting bilingual Kindergarten children that were lagging behind in reading.

Family Information:

I am married to Adan Kiyama and we are the proud parents of two daughters: Sarah (11) and Sofia (9). We have a dog called “Trufa” -which means truffle- a Chihuahua-Shih Tzu puppy.

Personal Information:

In my free time I like reading, cooking, and spending time with my family. Some of the most memorable moments I have spent with my daughters are when we cook together competing on “cupcakes wars” at home. My husband is the judge and he gets to decide who the winner is.
